Reimagined Restaurant Favorites: Homemade KFC Gravy (No Drive-Thru Required)

You know that moment when the mashed potatoes are hot, the crispy chicken is ready, the corn is buttered… and then the gravy shows up and pulls the whole situation together like the friend who brings matching Tupperware lids?

Yeah.
That’s this gravy.

Today, we’re talking about this Reimagined Restaurant KFC Gravy that goes ridiculously well on the No Drive-Thru Chicken Bowl. And I’m not being dramatic when I say this is the closest I’ve personally gotten to that iconic flavor without pulling into a parking lot and hoping the line moves before bedtime.

We love our gravy here at Maison Hearth. This one has officially become my go-to for anything chicken or poultry-related that calls for gravy. Mashed potatoes. Chicken bowls. Open-faced sandwiches. Biscuits. If it needs gravy, this is the gravy.

Why This Homemade KFC Gravy Works

This isn’t just about broth commitment.

It’s:

  • Rich
  • Savory
  • Smooth
  • Cozy
  • And deeply committed to your mashed potatoes

The secret is building flavor early so the gravy doesn’t taste like an afterthought.

No Drive Thru Gravy

This Homemade KFC Gravy is rich, savory, and the perfect copycat for your favorite comfort food bowls, mashed potatoes, or any chicken and poultry dish that needs a cozy finishing touch.

Servings 2 Servings

Ingredients

  • 4 tbsp. Butter
  • 4 tbsp. All-Purpose Flour
  • 2 C. Chicken Broth
  • 1 Cube Beef Bouillon
  • ¼ tsp. Onion Powder
  • ¼ tsp. Garlic Powder
  • Salt and Pepper To Taste

Instructions

Make the Roux

  • In a saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Whisk in the flour and cook for 1 to 2 minutes until light and golden. We're toasting, not burning.

Add the Flavor

  • Slowly whisk in the chicken broth until smooth. Drop in the beef bouillon cube. Add onion powder and garlic powder. Keep whisking so nobody clumps up and ruins dinner.

Simmer

  • Let the gravy simmer until thickened. You'll know when it is ready when it coats the back of a spoon and makes you consider pouring it on everything you own.

Notes

  • Make this ahead and store it in the fridge for up to 3 days.
Reheat gently on the stove and add a splash of broth if it thickens too much.

It’s the backbone of the No Drive-Thru Chicken Bowl… but it’s also wildly good on turkey, pork, and pretty much any poultry situation you’ve got going on.

Skip the packet tonight and give this one a try. Your mashed potatoes will notice.
